About Indonesia
After China, India and The United States, Indonesia with 270 million people is the fourth most populous country in the world.
Indonesia is a tropical country that straddles the equator to the north and south and occupies 17,500 islands of which 6,000 are populated. Indonesia has hundreds of cultures and languages but one national language “Bahasa Indonesia”.
After centuries of Dutch Colonial rule, Indonesia became independent in 1945. After many decades of dictatorship, the country became democratic in 1998 and is now a presidential representative democratic republic.
Indonesia is the largest economy in southeast Asia and the world bank predicts it will be the 4th largest economy in the world by 2050.
As with other countries in southeast Asia, Indonesians are very courteous and very friendly.
