Shadow theaters are orchestrated by the Dalang (puppet master) who manipulates the puppets and creates the speech, accents, and sounds according to age and gender of the character. Rama is descended from the Hindu god Vishnu and is believed by many Hindus to be based on an actual figure from history. Rama is thought to be the most virtuous hero from Hindu mythology. He and his wife Shinta, are the classic example of purity and marital devotion.
